Featured Speakers

Annuities 101 and 102 -- Darwin “DC” Couch began as a career agent with Farm Bureau Insurance of Kansas. After a couple of years of personal production, he was named Agency Manager in western Kansas in charge of production, recruiting, and management of the agency. He ran multiple agencies for the company before taking on the role of Regional Sales Manager. During that time, his region went from last place in life/annuity production to the number one position. He was then asked to take over an agency, in Johnson County Kansas, to develop and grow production for the company. Building it from scratch, he took the agency to multiple awards in a 15-state area, including Agency of the year. He then left to start his own practice, which included a group benefits division. DC was recruited by an Independent Marketing Organization (IMO) to develop a new life insurance division. DC is well respected in the industry and has been for over 25 years.

Taxes in Retirement -- Steve Rohrig, Associate Director of Training, Senior Market Sales -- Steve has been involved in the insurance industry for 25 years, getting his insurance license in the early 1990s while he worked for a local Omaha bank. Now, Steve is the Associate Director of Training in the Financial Planning Division of Senior Market Sales® (SMS). He holds a very high passion for the insurance business, which makes him a valuable member of the SMS family. Steve’s job is to help agents increase their knowledge and develop their skills, primarily in life insurance, annuities and long-term care. One of Steve’s favorite parts is that he gets to help agents in growing their practices. He holds four designations from the American College (CLU®, ChFC®, RICP®, and CASL®), and four FINRA Series 65 license.

Recent Nebraska Tax Law Changes -- Matt Ottemann, JD, Attorney with McGrath North Law Firm -- Matt has successfully represented a wide variety of companies in many business sectors in the defense and resolution of tax audits and appeals.  Matt’s work has helped businesses save tens of millions of dollars in tax costs – both in taxes saved and tax incentives received.  Matt is also an experienced Estate Planner.  He has been selected to teach Estate Planning to business students at Creighton University for several years, as well as Estate and Gift Taxation at the Creighton University School of Law.
