Dr. Randy Adkins is a dedicated academic leader whose journey from a humble background to a leadership role at a prominent metropolitan university reflects his deep commitment to learning and public service. As a first-generation college student, he draws inspiration from his family's history—his great-grandfather was a coal miner, his grandfather a blacksmith for the coal mines, and his father a truck driver for a pipe and valve distributor servicing the coal industry. Raised only one block from a public library and public school fueled his passion for higher education and public service.

Dr. Adkins is dedicated to student civic engagement is reflected in his leadership of the Nebraska Civic Leaders Program. This program encourages civic engagement among high-achieving high school students and their government teachers. Additionally, he directs two signature programs at UNO named for alumnus Chuck Hagel: the Chuck Hagel Symposium in Public Service and the Chuck Hagel Forum in Global Leadership.
For the past decade, Dr. Adkins has served as the Senior Associate Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), but he continues to teach courses on U.S. politics and is a sought-after commentator for various media outlets. His excellence in teaching and research has been recognized through numerous awards, including the Chancellor’s Excellence in Teaching Award, the Alumni Outstanding Teaching Award, and the College of Arts & Sciences Excellence in Research Award. He is also the former Ralph Wardle Diamond Professor of Arts & Sciences. His scholarly contributions are extensive. In addition to numerous publications in political science journals, he has edited significant works such as The Evolution of Political Parties, Campaigns, and Elections and co-edited three editions of Cases in Congressional Campaigns. Dr. Adkins is also a former American Political Science Association Congressional Fellow.
